Vaccination schedules
Vaccines can be given over different time lines and still become effective. Here are the standard schedules.
(if you have less time than this see our sheet on "minimum times 'til vaccination"
0 refers to day zero, or the day you have the first injection.
Hepatitis A 0, 6 months (cover after the 1st injection, LIFE COVER AFTER 2ND)
Hepatitis B 0, 1m, 6months (cover after the 2nd injection, LIFE COVER AFTER 3RD...if under 14 need only
2 injections)
Twinrix (A+B) 0, 1m, 6m (cover after 2 injections, LIFE COVER AFTER 3RD)
Typhoid 0. (lasts 3 years).
Typhoid capsules 0, 2, 4 (3 Doses on alternate days, lasts 1-3 years)
If have 4 doses over 7 days, this lasts 5 years (useful if going to stay overseas for more than 3 years)
Yellow fever 0 (cover after 10 days, lasts 10 years)
Meningitis 0 (lasts 3 years)
Polio 0 ( LIFE cover after adult booster)
Japanese Encephalitis 0, 7, 21 days (Cover lasts 2 years)
Rabies 0, 7, 21 days lasts 2 years, a fourth dose after 1 year (GIVES LIFE COVER)
Measles 0 (LIFE cover if it is your second dose)
Malaria There is no vaccine. This is prevented by taking medicaton whilst away.
Some diseases also confer lifelong immunity. They are Hepatitis A, B (sometimes), and measles. Other diseases do not as there is more than one strain, or they are fatal.
