Your appointment

To become fully vaccinated is quite a lengthy process from start to finish so here are some handy hints....

Phone us at least 1 week before you need the appointment so you can get a time that suits (late times and Saturdays fill up very quickly). This should be about 5 weeks minimum before your trip, so 6 weeks is the lead time you need to be considering. Some vaccine schedules take a month to be given and a week to work after that, so the more time the better.

Have a ring around and find out when you had your last tetanus booster, and if your health fund will cover the vaccines (under Pharmaceutical extras).

Bring a record of any other vaccines you have had since you left school, especially if travel related. You may need to phone your doctor to get this information, and it can take up to a week to get the information if it is pre 2000 (often archived).

If you are seriously unwell even more time may be required as we may wait until you are on less medication before giving some live vaccines. This particularly applies to steroids and cancer drugs.

On the day of your appointment we will have some paperwork for you to fill in (or if you are a family we suggest  downloading the and bringing it completed to your appointment) and some material to read, so please be punctual. We try not to keep you waiting and have a pretty good track record so far! The appointment with the travel consultant (s) may take up to 45 minutes, longer if a family is involved. Some vaccines are oral  too! We keep everything on site, so no prescriptions are necessary and you can have the vaccines on the first day, you will not have to go to the pharmacy! Any booster doses can be scheduled before your trip.

If you have left it too late we can still vaccinate you for most things even in the last week before you go, so don't think it's too late.
